Former H2K Gaming jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski is reportedly close to a deal with G2 Esports, according to a report from ESPN.
Jankos would be replacing former G2 Esports jungler Kim “Trick” Gang-yun, who joined LCK team bbq Olivers in the offseason alongside former Misfits support Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun.
H2K reportedly had a first refusal clause added to Jankos’s contract, which ended on Nov. 20, meaning that the team could match any offer he received from other teams to re-sign the player for the 2018 season.
According to the report Jankos’ contract included a matching clause. That meant that H2K had the right to retain Jankos if they were willing to match any offer from another team. G2, however, reportedly agreed to pay an undisclosed sun to H2K Gaming in order for H2K to waive that right of first refusal, in order to guarantee Jankos joins G2 with no complications.
Jankos had been a member of H2K Gaming for over two years, reaching the semifinals of the 2016 World Championship with the team before losing to Samsung Galaxy 3-0.
Jankos would join the team alongside former Splyce top laner Martin “Wunder” Hansen and the bottom lane duo of Roccat of Petter “Hjarnan” Freyschuss and Kum “Wadid” Bae-in to complete G2’s 2018 roster.
This would mean that Luka “PerkZ” Perkovic is the only member of the original G2 roster to be returning to the team in the new season. G2’s bot lane of Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen and Alfonso “mithy” Aguirre Rodriguez joined NA LCS team TSM, while top laner Ki “Expect” Dae-han was not resigned by the organization.
