A League of Legends up-and-comer is making his return to the League Championship Series (LCS).
Greyson “GoldenGlue” Gilmer will be stepping in for Team 8 in the mid lane, sources close to the organization and player tell the Daily Dot. This news comes after starter Andrew “Slooshi” Pham requested to take a leave of absence after his mother falling ill, which the team announced on June 12. Gilmer will debut on June 20 against Gravity, and it’s unclear how long he’ll be staying with the time.
Pham’s time off isn’t at the most optimal of times, either. Team 8 is currently tied for second to last place, holding an 1-4 record in the League Championship Series (LCS). Since split started, the team has brought on a new coach and a new AD carry: Chad “HISTORY TEACHER” Smeltz and Zachary “Nien” Malhas respectively.
This opportunity will be Gilmer’s return to the big stage. He joined Team Dignitas on March 25 after veteran William “Scarra” Li stepped down to a coaching position, only to be be removed when Li returned for the 2014 Spring Playoffs. The team ultimately chose ex-Coast Danny “Shiphtur” Le as a permanent replacement for Li, ending Gilmer’s opportunities with the team.
Since then, Gilmer has played for three Challenger teams—Team Coast, Complexity.White, and most recently Frank Fang Gaming. With Frank Fang, he placed second in the AlphaDraft Challenger League and the Press Start: Irvine 2015 event. But the team failed to qualify for the Challenger Series after an 0-2 loss versus Cloud9 Tempest on May 27.
Gilmer’s first week back in the LCS will pit him and the team against Gravity and Team Dragon Knights. The former is off to a good start with a 3-2 record. The latter has been plagued by visa issues and is having to use two substitutes, one of which is Gilmer’s ex-teammate on Frank Fang, James “Lattman” Lattman.
