Faker wants this change in next LoL season—and he’s not the only pro with complaints

Rewarding mechanical mastery to bring back the outplays that made League legendary.

Faker has witnessed League of Legends evolve over the past decade, and he has some constructive criticism to help make the game even better.

“Personally, League has seen many patches that emphasize team movements and plays,” Faker said in the interview at the Esports World Cup 2025. “If future patches focus more on individual skill, I think players would really like that,” the legendary T1 mid further explained, adding the game has leaned too heavily into team-based strategies in recent patches and a shift back toward individual skill could reinvigorate both pros and fans alike.

Faker is widely regarded as one of the greatest esports players of all time, celebrated for his jaw-dropping outplays and mechanical brilliance. Many of these moments stem from his razor-sharp reflexes and mechanical mastery on champions like Zed—plays that have left fans speechless and become iconic highlights in League’s history.

To support Faker’s vision, Riot would need to drastically change the game’s meta by toning down early-game jungle pressure and roaming supports so players can shine through pure mechanical skill and 1v1 dominance in their lanes. Champions with high execution ceilings, like Zed or Akali, could be buffed or adjusted to reward precision and fast reflexes, rather than getting drowned out by utility-heavy picks.

Other pros at EWC 2025 weighed in with their suggestions on League’s next season. Jojopyun wants to see support champions nerfed to reduce their overall agency, while Tarzan, Levi, and JunJia all pushed for jungle buffs. JunJia specifically wants more viable carry options to shake up the stale bruiser jungler-dominated meta. Elyoya called for nerfs to objective control, arguing that dragons have become too influential in deciding the outcome of a match, especially with the power of soul buffs. Blaber, on the other hand, was the only one who didn’t want any changes to the jungle, saying it’s time for the game to settle without constant adjustments for a season.

Bwipo had a more radical take, proposing the removal of free boots entirely to curb early aggression from champions like Pantheon and Lee Sin. Meanwhile, knight called for buffs to mid lane assassins, Caps wanted a return of fun AP Kog’Maw, and BrokenBlade took things further by proposing the complete removal of Teleport Summoner spell. Outside of balance, Busio highlighted a persistent quality-of-life issue: the need to reduce queue times.

From balance shifts to bold system overhauls, the wide range of feedback makes one thing clear: Riot now has no shortage of suggestions from some of the game’s sharpest esports minds. Whether any of them make it into next season remains to be seen.
