After spending most of the Spring Split in the shadow of rival Fnatic, G2 are back on top of the EU LCS.
The meta heavily favors G2’s style of strong solo laners with an aggressive jungler and they’ve made the most of it, getting fantastic performances across the roster. And Fnatic’s adventures with the gold funneling strategy, well, let’s just say it was a swing and a miss.
So how much did Fnatic drop in our power rankings? We asked our voters to assign points to each team from 1 (worst) to 10 (best) to find out.
These teams are just shuffling around, not making any real progress. Still, with franchising on the horizon, this is not a split you want to be last in.
10) Unicorns of Love (7 points)
Unicorns of Love seemed like they could fit right into the current crazy League meta because they’ve always been unpredictable. They drafted a bunch of overpowered champions against Schalke and then fell apart against Kayle. Then the draft phase then went totally off the rails in a loss vs. Misfits. It was like they were throwing darts at a wall.
9) H2k (7 points)
H2k made some noise towards the end of the Spring Split by focusing around ADC Patrik “Sheriff” Jírů. So it makes perfect sense that they totally ignored him and went 0-2 last week.
8) Giants Gaming (11 points)
Giants got a win vs. H2k because H2k are clueless. Beyond that, there’s not a ton of hope for this team yet.
7) ROCCAT (17 points)
ROCCAT were the other beneficiary of H2k’s confused play. There’s no shame in losing to G2’s Heimerdinger to go 1-1.
The not-so-mighty have fallen
Splyce had a terrible start to the Spring Split. They’re on a similar trajectory so far this summer.
6) FC Schalke 04 (20 points)
Schalke put UOL away and had a chance to stomp a Fnatic team while they were down. Losing a Baron with lanes pushing in their favor was simply inexcusable.
5) Splyce (23 points)
Can Splyce stop getting caught out? If they can, they have a chance at making the finals. If not, they may fall even further.
What the Fnatic?
Fnatic dropped all the way from first to third, and they deserve it. Neither of their games was convincing last week.
4) Vitality (28 points)
Vitality had a strong week. We’re just waiting to see more from them before making a move.
3) Fnatic (33 points)
For years, Fnatic have bent over backwards to give resources to ADC Martin “Rekkles” Larsson. But now this is mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther’s team. We’ll see if Caps can get things going, because Fnatic was fortunate to salvage a win vs. Schalke last week.
An unexpected contender
G2 are at the top, which makes sense. But the meta is also favoring another team that fell out of the playoffs last split.
2) Misfits (35 points, one first-place vote)
This meta fits Misfits perfectly. Barney “Alphari” Morris is their carry, and he had a strong game on Dr. Mundo. But the real story of the week was ADC Steven “Hans Sama” Liv, who, with Rekkles playing supports, is the best ADC in the region right now.
1) G2 (39 points, three first-place votes)
G2 are running and gunning in the meta. They’re playing with pace, and not only has that been successful, it’s been fun to watch.
