EU LCS Week 3, Day 2 Recap: G2 Esports and H2K Stay On Top

The two number one seeds from the groups had series today. G2 Esports came into the week perfect, while H2k had suffered one loss to the Unicorns of Love.

H2k and G2 Esports are the top seeds in their respective groups and they have been playing like top teams through the first two weeks. Their respective opponents, Team Vitality and Giants Gaming, have had some good performances. Despite thier good performances, they find themselves further down the standings then they would like. Here’s what happened betwen these teams.

(1-3) Vitality 1-2 H2k-Gaming (3-1)

Game One: At the start of the match, Ha “Hachani” Seung-chan was caught of position again and went down to Nuclear for First Blood. Though H2k took the early kills, they gave turrets to Vitality and Vitality took the gold lead. With their sizable gold lead, Vitality attempted to take a Baron, which led to a massive team fight win for them and the Baron take. Vitality went into the mid-game with a large lead. Using their advantage, Vitality easily closed out the game and took the lead over H2k.

Game Two: A new game, but same opening as Hachani went down for First Blood yet again getting caught out by Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski. This time around H2k continued to snowball their lead instead of losing out on objective trades. However, one man stood in their way in the form of Lucas “Cabochard” Simon-Meslet, who turned a few fights around and came close to getting a penta-kill. H2k took their lead and ran it into Vitality’s base to take down the nexus and tie up the series.

Game Three: At the start of the third match, both teams attempted to play around their strengths and Vitality came out slightly ahead by focusing on the top lane. The teams played out their different compositions with H2k focusing on team fights while Vitality focused on the strong split-push by Cabochard. Eventually H2k’s comp took the advantage and was able to grab a Baron after a successful team fight. It took them a while, but H2k eventually closed out the game and the series.

Player of the Series: My player of the series is Fabian “Febiven” Diepstraten. For majority of the games, Febiven controlled the mid lane match-up and rendered Erlend “Nukeduck” Våtevik ineffective. Febiven’s Corki play was fantastic and critical in putting down damage on the other team and securing key kills.

(1-3) Giants 0-2 G2 Esports (4-0)

Game One: G2 took an early lead in the first game and never let Giants get a foothold in the game. Not only did they dominate on a macro-level, but they also dominated on a micro-level. This was shown in the fact that G2 earned a perfect game against Giants leading to an easy game one victory.

Game Two: There would be no second perfect game for G2 as they lost both a turret and Luka “PerkZ” Perković for First Blood. Giants put up a much stronger fight in game two, utilizing a Riven pick to grab kills and turrets. Due to this, G2 did not look like the dominant team that showed up in game one. While the manner in which they did it was drastically different, G2 still claimed the game win and the series win to stay perfect on the season.

PLayer of the Series: My player of the series is Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen. Zven came into the series with a long deathless time and continued that in the first match, as he was typically untouched and provided the damage to get a perfect game. In game two, however, he died. Despite this, Zven continued to output a lot of damage and his Ashe arrows were on-point.
