Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng threw down the gauntlet in another grudge match against his former team, TSM, today in the second week of the NA LCS. The superstar ADC and the rest of Liquid proved to be much, much stronger than the former domestic titans.
Liquid made a great case for themselves as the superior team today, but the most impressive facet of the defending champs’ game today was their bot lane with Doublelift and Kim “Olleh” Joo-sung. In the middle of one of the most unpredictable bot lane metas in League of Legends history, these two are proving that they can take traditional marksmen and supports, and they’ll pull it off with great synergy and raw talent.
Doublelift has been absolutely crushing his competition this split so far when he gets to lock in Kai’Sa during champ select, which could also be seen as a bit of a red flag, too. If he doesn’t manage to get Kai’Sa, will he perform on the same level? The answer is “probably,” since he’s one of the most talented bot lane carries in the region, if not the most, but there’s still at least a small concern.
At the very least, other teams in the league will likely shift their picks and bans toward keeping key marksmen away from Doublelift, rather than banning the hard carries, mages, and bruisers that they need to ban from other teams. He’s also well-known for his skill on Lucian, and since Lucian is very prominent in the current meta, it seems like teams would have to use at least two bans on him.
If they don’t want to use the bans, they risk Doublelift grabbing those marksmen and kicking off the bloodshed. In today’s game, Olleh landed snare after snare onto TSM’s bot lane, and Doublelift used full-speed aggression to pick up kills and pressure his lane opponents away from their own farm.
He was up almost 20 farm before 10 minutes, and although TSM’s Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen had more total damage to enemy champs at the end of the game, Doublelift was much more of a carry factor during huge fights.
Liquid now sit in first place of the 2018 NA LCS Summer Split, but there are still some teams that could win their games later today and tie them up.
