CLG Stroll Through: NA LCS Playoffs Quarterfinal Recap

CLG take an easy series against Team Liquid with very little hiccups and set up a Spring Split Finals rematch with Team SoloMid.

Game 1

Game one was dominated by Counter Logic Gaming. It began early when Jake ‘Xmithie” Puchero got the opening kill on Samson “Lourlo” Jackson. That led to CLG taking the first turret, the top lane tier one. Soon enough, the game began to open up with CLG snowballing their lead, being up by nine kills at one point. However, Team Liquid was able to survive a little longer than it looked like they should have, winning a fight at 22 minutes when CLG was pushing for inhibitors. It proved too little too late, and TL would end up losing a fight at the ocean drake that ultimately was the final nail in the coffin for TL.

Game 2

Game two played out very differently for both sides. This game saw Lourlo get first blood onto Darshan “Darshan” Upadhyaya, although CLG was able to hold a slight lead in the early and mid game until Team Liquid was able to take their first gold lead at 30 minutes. This was held until a disastrous teamfight that saw Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes score a triple kill. From that point, CLG took an inhibitor and then rotated to Baron. Another push into the TL base was aided by minions shoving in the Nexus turrets. CLG chose to lay off with the minions taking down one of the two Nexus turrets, and decided the Elder Dragon was a better option, drawing TL out of their base. From there, with minions once again shoving in, TL could not contest the dragon, giving it over to CLG. One final push and teamfight both in the favor of CLG ended game two, giving them a 2-0 series lead.

Game 3

Team Liquid made a roster change before the start of game three, subbing in Phil “Jynthe” Vu in the AD Carry role. The new bottom lane died to give up first blood but the kill was quickly traded back by Dardoch and kept TL in the game earlier. Soon enough, Team Liquid extended their gold lead and maintained a solid advantage over Counter Logic Gaming throughout the entire game, pushing the series scoreline to 2-1 in favor of CLG.

Game 4

Game four looked a lot like game one, with CLG gaining control of the game in the beginning and not giving up their firm grasp. The Team Liquid bot lane was caught out of position early after burning their summoner spells, which kicked off the snowball of CLG. Stixxay was 3/0/1 in the first five minutes and he kept that pace up, scoring a quadra kill in one of the final teamfights. CLG pushed down the mid-lane and TL soon found themselves out of position, being blocked out of their own base. Choi “Huhi” Jae-hyun, with the help of Xmithie, continued to stop the back attempts of TL, while their teammates took down the Nexus turrets, and then the Nexus, taking the map and the series.

Counter Logic Gaming won the series 3-1, and advance to the semifinals, where they will play against the number one seed in North America, Team SoloMid.
