Alliance iced the hot streak of Supa Hot Crew, winners of their past three matches, to exert their dominance over the European side of the League Championship Series. And they did it thanks to their captain Henrik “Froggen” Hansen showing off on his signature champion—Anivia.

Hansen took revenge over the only team that’s beaten Alliance this season with the Cryophoenix, posting a 7/1/3 KDA line. In two games this week, Hansen and Anivia have combined for an 8/1/13 KDA, boosting Alliance to a league leading 7-1 record with wins against ROCCAT and Supa Hot Crew.

The icy guardian Anivia has only seen three LCS games this year—all played by Hansen. The bird fell out of favor thanks to the abundance of mobile champions plaguing League of Legends. But the Anivia master Hansen decided the time was right to dust off his favorite weapon.

Anivia brings an impressive package to Summoner’s Rift. No champions can zone the enemy team as well as Anivia, thanks to the massive area of effect slow of her ultimate Glacial Storm and Crystallize, which places an impassable wall on the map. She has impressive crowd control thanks to her slow the stun of Flash Frost. Glacial Storm is one of the best wave clear abilities in the game. Plus Frostbite provides plenty of damage—if you can hit your skillshots like Hansen can.

The icy deity’s lack of mobility doomed her in the past, but with fewer assassins lurking in the mid lane and the jungle, the time was apparently right for Anivia to make a comeback. Hansen picked her against ROCCAT and Supa Hot Crew lineups with a general lack of mobility, an environment in which the Cryophoenix thrives.

Hansen played the slow-moving bird with the Teleport ability, allowing him to enter team fights on his own terms and prevent the enemy team from escaping. Against Supa Hot Crew, that Teleport scored him two double kills.

Alliance also took full advantage of Anivia’s ability to catch out enemy champions, grabbing a couple kills on Supa Hot Crew’s unsuspecting mid laner Marcin “SELFIE” Wolski.

It was an impressive performance by Europe’s best mid laner, and by Europe’s best team.
