What does Barathrum do in CloverPit?

There’s a charm in CloverPit for almost any playstyle. Some of the charms revolve around banning items during your run, and Barathrum will ban a phone ability you pick up. While counterintuitive, this charm can bring lots of value to your run.

How the Barathrum charm works in CloverPit

At first, Barathrum feels similar to Depression in its logic, but it’s much easier to take advantage of. Barathrum’s effect states that whenever you pick a phone ability, ban it, and when you discard Barathrum, unban the phone ability and trigger it again. Barathrum can only ban one ability at any given time.

Picking up a phone ability and then discarding Barathrum allows you to dupe phone abilities. This can range from simply getting more tickets to permanently increasing charm’s space even more, creating opportunities to keep the run going.

Here are some of the phone abilities that you can use Barathrum with:

• Please Don’t Throw My Stuff Away!: Increase charm’s space by one, permanently.
• Life Gave Me Lemons (or an alternative ability for other symbols): Lemons manifest more often (+1), permanently.
• I’m Gonna Go “All in”!: Triple the value of the seven.

Of course, you can use Barathrum on any phone ability, depending on your run and current build. You can even pair with the Megaphone that makes every phone ability trigger an additional time when you pick it up, tripling overall value.

If there’s no decent phone call on the line, you can always throw Barathrum in one of the drawers (don’t forget it there or it’ll turn into a Corpse in the next run) until an opportune moment.

How to get Barathrum in CloverPit

To unlock Barathrum, you need to pick 100 phone abilities. There’s a counter on the terminal that tracks how many more you need. There’s no easy way around getting this one done—simply pick up an ability every time a phone rings. The only exception would be when trying for a secret 999 ending, where you can’t pick up red abilities.
