Rdu and Thijs join brand-new Nihilum Hearthstone team
Two of Europe's best Hearthstone players have a new home. Thijs "ThijsNL" Moledijk and Dima "Rdu" Radu are joining the brand-new Hearthstone division of Nihilum, a World of Warcraft team established and owned by Thomas "Kungen" Amedeo.
Veteran Adrian "Lifecoach" Koy will also join the team, with Jakub "Lothar" Szygulski acting as team captain following his own departure from Planetkey Dynamics on Dec. 1. Radu and Moledijk had previously played for Meet Your Makers, but departed that squad after the team signed a streaming deal with Azubu.
News of the team's formation first leaked last month, when Koy discussed the team and its members with a friend while on stream.
"I'm really excited to announce the team", Szygulski told The Daily Dot, "I think our team will be insanely strong in the competitive scene and you will see us in every big tournament possible. We want more achievements, more DreamHack champs and the World Championships. We will work hard to make that happen."
The signings of Molendijk and Radu are something of a coup for the brand-new team, much like Jason "Amaz" Chan's signing of future world champion James "Firebat" Kostesich shortly after forming Team Archon . Both players had multiple offers, including from established top teams, sources tell the Daily Dot.
Radu was one of 2014's most successful players, winning tournaments like DreamHack Summer, Deck Wars Season 2 and the HyperX Invitational. Molendijk closed the year by winning DreamHack Winter, his first major tournament win, while Koy reached the semi-finals of the same tournament. Szygulski has struggled for tournament success, but is a veteran of the Hearthstone scene.
"I always knew Nihilum will be expanding beyond WoW universe at some day," Amedeo said in a statement on the team's website. "The moment has finally come with Hearthstone. An excellent game I have been truly enjoying myself. The stakes were high since Nihilum consists only of the most dedicated World of Warcraft players around."
