The Grand Tournament is just around the corner, and with it, thousands of new possibilities have just arrived!
I loved what we’ve seen from the Grand Tournament so far – not only the cards seem to be a lot more consistent than prior expansions, they seem to be overall more directed to what Hearthstone really is than other expansions were. Now new decks are able to be born, but also old decks that weren’t that good are capable of existing and being competitive because of this expansion.
Brewing new deck is, to me, the most fun aspect of Hearthstone, so I hope you all enjoy the decklists! These are decklists that I think that are a good baseline to start testing the deck once the expansion hits. With playtesting and tweaking, we can then refine and tune the deck to the meta and make it more consistent. I’ll be showcasing 4 decks with a short summary each.
Midrange Beast Hunter
kings-elekk: I loved this card when I first saw it, but also recognized how hard it seems to be to create a perfectly fit Hunter deck for it. This card doesn’t seem to have a home in existing Hunter decks, but I believe with the help of newly introduced cards such as bear-trap we are able to create a pretty powerful Hunter deck that also takes strength in this card’s battlecry.
This deck is very different from today’s Midrange Hunter but at the same time very similar. It has the same potential, but with very different approaches. Notice that this deck runs a lot less minions than the original Midrange Hunter, that is to accommodate King’s Elekk battlecry, at the same time this deck runs a lot more traps than the Standard Midrange Hunter we currently know. This happens because the traps, although not real minions, are capable of putting beasts on the board in the form of both a 3/3 Bear as well as 3x 1/1 Snakes, these beasts are able to count towards ram-wrangler’s battlecry but not count toward King’s Elekk battlecry, which makes a lot of sense in the end if you think about it.
I believe that if King’s Elekk is going to be playable, it will be in a deck like this. Also note how powerful eaglehorn-bow becomes on a deck like this, with a very high number of traps, the Bow is capable of generating a lot more charges than usual Midrange Hunters, making it so the deck becomes more consistent in the long run.
