Despite losing its star player, Luminosity has wasted no time in securing a replacement. And to do so, they’ve looked to Hearthstone‘s past.
Magic: the Gathering legend and DreamHack Bucharest Stanislav Cifka has parted ways with Luminosity Gaming after his contract expired. His departure from the team had been rumored for a number of months, and he is expected to be an in-demand free agent. Nuno “Ignite” Pinho has also left the team.
It’s not all departures for Luminosity though, as the team announced it signed Johan “Darkwonyx” Hansson. Hansson’s return to a major team has come as a surprise to some, as he has made only sporadic appearances in competitive Hearthstone in 2015. Hansson’s main esports appearances this year came during an unremarkable two-month stint in Heroes of the Storm with Team Alternate.
Hansson was formerly a part of ManaGrind and Team Curse, competing for the former on the ESGN Fight Night series.
For Cifka, his future destination is unclear. According to sources close to the player, he is not currently in advanced negotiations with any team. Though he is a close practice partner with G2 Esports, his reluctance to stream is said to be a deal breaker for G2—as it will be for many other major organizations.
