The latest card revealed from Hearthstone’s upcoming expansion, Kobolds and Catacombs, gives Druid another tool to ramp up its mana.
Greedy Sprite is a three-mana 3/1 minion with a Deathrattle effect that gives you an empty mana crystal. Druid players have many cards that give them mana, and now Greedy Sprite is another way to quickly beat your opponent to 10 mana.
The main difference between Greedy Sprite and most other mana-gain cards is that it has a Deathrattle instead of a Battlecry. With a Battlecry, you can get that mana crystal right away and you know you’ll have it on your next turn. Greedy Sprite is a less sure option, as it won’t trigger immediately.
The good part about Greedy Sprite is it has an advantageous statline for its effect. A 3/1 minion can trade up in many cases and take out an enemy minion with high health in the early stages of the game. The one health also means it will die from any AoE spells your opponent uses to clear a board.
Greedy Sprite may fit into some Ramp or Big Druid decks, but it may not see widespread adoption. The card is slow when it comes to getting the mana crystal and that could rule it out in many Druid decks.
Kobolds and Catacombs will be released on Dec. 7.
