Gnimsh, Chakki, Greensheep headline first LAN of 2015
The 2015 Hearthstone calendar is starting to fill up. And we now have the details of the first offline competition of the year, as well as some of the top European names that will be competing.
Assembly, a Finnish gaming convention that has run since 1992, will host its first Hearthstone competition on Jan. 30. Sixteen players will battle it out for a €3,500 prize pool, with the winner taking home €2,000.
The tournament hasn't officially revealed its invitees yet, but the Daily Dot has learned that the Team Dignitas trio of Keaton "Chakki" Gill", James "Greensheep" Luo and Lewis "Blackout" Spencer will all be taking part, as well as Cloud9 team captain Marcin "Gnimsh" Filipowicz, Method's Mauro "PiniAwesome" Blanco and Fnatic's Jokul "Kaldi" Johannsson. Four of the 16 places will be filled by open qualifiers.
One team who won't be taking part are members of the newly formed Nihilum Hearthstone division, including Thijs "ThijsNL" Moledijk and Dima "Rdu" Radu—team manager Jakub "Lothar" Szygulski told the Daily Dot that the prize pool was "too small" for the team to consider the event.
Jan "ek0p" Palys will join the casting team for the event.
Assembly hosted a Hearthstone tournament last year, with Finnish players battling it out to represent the country at the IeSF World Championships. The event was won by Janne "Savjz" Mikkonen, though second place Aleksi "Wampie" Majander ended up representing Finland at the event.
Esports is a relatively new addition to the convention, with StarCraft 2 a part of the event since 2011.
