Biography

The new breed had arrived. Following a dominant performance by Str8 Rippin in which they only dropped a single game, and a lackluster 7th place finish from Final Boss, there was a new team to fear on the pro circuit. Despite there being less than a month between events, a big number of team changes occurred before Orlando. Only Str8 Rippin and Final Boss's rosters remained intact. The 2nd place Instinct opted to replace Snipedown with former member Victory X. Snipedown then went to fill Victory X's spot on Triggers DownCarbon, unsatisfied with being consistently outside the finals, made their first ever team change, dropping Gandhi in favor of Cpt AnarchyClassic also looked to improve, dropping FeaR and replacing him with Naded from Fatal Images. Fear and Gandhi would link up with Defy and Best Man to form PSF. Fatal Images would suffer another blow with the departure of veteran member Foulacy. To fill the holes, TiZoXiC and Severince recruited Maniac and Laquatus. The 6th place Believe the Hype suffered the loss of Heinz and NeXuS, who left to join Ambush, replacing Eli and Gun Shot. The Ambush duo in turn joined BtH. Other teams changing it up included Breaking PointChilled Reality and XiT Woundz.

The Open Bracket had its own surprising results, with Halo 2 all-star team Shamocracy, featuring BonfireXtremist and Samurai650, failing to make it out. Another team of Halo 2 stars, Check Your Pulse, failed to make it out as well. The Championship Bracket kicked off and it wasn't long until a big upset, with Chilled Reality sending the new Carbon lineup to Losers' as early as Round 2. Former Carbon member Gandhi and PSF didn't fare any better, being taken out by Instinct in the same round. Also in Round 2, Ambush took out Fatal Images in a battle of the 8th and 9th seeds. These three teams would need to go on big LB runs to salvage top 8 placings, and they started with victories in their first two Losers' matches. In WB Round 3, Triggers Down, Final Boss and Instinct had no trouble with their matches, defeating Classic, Chilled Reality and Believe the Hype with relative ease. Str8 Rippin had a much harder time however, underestimating Ambush and losing 3-2 to the upstart squad. In Losers', Str8 put an end to PSF's run for a top 12 finish, while Carbon swept Classic and Fatal Images took a 3-2 victory over Believe the Hype. Chilled Reality continued their run, taking out Breaking Point in 5 games. Not done yet, Str8 laid down a 3-1 victory on Carbon, setting up a date with the loser of FB vs. TD, while Chilled Reality pulled of another upset, defeating Fatal Images with a score of 3-1.

In the Winners' Semifinals, Triggers Down laid waste to Ambush, taking a 3-0 victory. Meanwhile, Instinct put a dagger in Final Boss's resurgence plans, taking a 5 game series and putting them in danger of another early tournament exit. Str8 twisted the dagger, taking a 3-0 victory over Final Boss, ending their night with a top 6 finish. While an improvement over San Diego, it would not be enough to prevent major roster changes for the formerly dominant squad in the near future. On the other side of the bracket, Ambush ended Chilled Reality's Cinderella run in a close 5 game series, setting up a rematch with Str8 for top 3. Str8 learned from their mistakes in the first series, and took 4 straight games to eliminate Ambush with a 6-3 score. Triggers Down continued their dominant tournament run, defeating Instinct 3-0, going into the finals with a perfect record. Str8 rolled over Instinct, defeating them 3-0 and earning a spot in the finals after a 5 round Losers' Bracket run. Str8 would need to win two consecutive 5 game series' to win the event coming out of Losers', while TD needed only one. They managed to take the first series by a narrow score of 3-2, but TD regained their composure and took a 3-0 sweep to win their first ever tournament, becoming only the fourth team to win an event since 2005.
