The Leaderboard: This week in esports
On this week’s edition of The Leaderboard, the panel tackles Hearthstone tournaments failing to pay players.
It’s a problem that has been pervasive in esports for years, and now that problem has carried over to Hearthstone as the game takes its place among the world’s top competitive titles. But even as world class players such as Andre “TidesofTime” Biessener struggle to get paid, it may not be as simple as tournament organizers refusing to hand out prizes.
Event such as the World Cyber Arena and World Esports Championships take place in China, and as Biessener discovered for himself, moving a significant amount of money won in China out of the country can be a difficult proposition.
We also tackle the team rebrandings in the League Championship Series, the results of the Smite World Championship, age restrictions on Call of Duty players, and the highlights of the Awesome Games Done Quick charity marathon.
