If you’ve been playing Respawn’s latest free-to-play battle royale game, Apex Legends, over the past 24 hours since the game released you might have seen a certain term appear in message boards online.
This term “Lorem Ipsum” has been popping up for a number of people when playing the game. It either appears as the game’s name or when you receive or invite players on Xbox.
This bug, which can be easily fixed, is essentially a placeholder name for the title that should be easily fixed either by Microsoft or the gang over at Respawn.
For anyone who’s worked in design, “Lorem Ipsum” is a familiar phrase. It’s essentially default placeholder text in any design draft, from magazine layouts to website concepts. The expression itself is meaningless—scrambled Latin taken from an ancient Cicero text.
Some other names that have popped up also includes “Respawn Demo” and, on PC, some people have even been seeing it named as “R5,” likely due to it being Respawn’s fifth game.
There is nothing to fear about the bugs, however, as you aren’t playing a different game when you click on an invite or load up Apex Legends. So you can continue to battle royale to your heart’s content, even if the game is called “Lorem Ipsum.”
Hopefully the issue should be fixed soon, if it hasn’t already. The game has only just been released after all so there are still plenty of bugs and kinks to work out for the time being.
