Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon players can unlock a special Pikachu variant in-game that was only originally available through distribution events—Surfing Pikachu.

Surfing Pikachu is a special variant of Pikachu that can use surf. In the original Pokémon games on Gameboy, Pikachu would be seen on a surfboard in-game, if a player used Surf to travel across oceans.

Other variants of Pikachu also exist in the series, such as Flying, Cosplay, and Cap Pikachu.

Players are able to unlock Surfing Pikachu by beating the high score on all of the Mantine Surfing mini-games. Once players have beaten the high score on all four of the courses, they can head to the surf shop in Heahea city, on Akala Island, to collect their Surfing Pikachu.

It is worth mentioning that the Pikachu itself is not shiny locked, nature locked, or IV locked, so if players want to, they can save the game just before collecting the Pikachu and continuously reset until they get the Surfing Pikachu.

This Pikachu can then be evolved into either Surfing Raichu or Surfing Alolan Raichu by using a thunderstone on it in either Ultra Space or main land Alola.

Ultra Sun and Moon launches Nov. 17 for Nintendo 3DS.
