Superhot is getting a new roguelike game mode
The stylish, time-bending shooter Superhot is about to get a new standalone expansion called Mind Control Delete. It's a free download for anyone who already owns Superhot, and instead of focusing on time-stopping action, it features roguelike elements like progression and permadeath.
The trailer demonstrates a mode where your health can roll over to the next level as you can purchase upgrades, power-ups, and heal yourself between missions and the various areas you'll be infiltrating. You'll still be playing through similar levels with similar gameplay, but progression is changing up considerably.
“Each challenge will make you more powerful and bring you closer to deciphering the secrets hidden from you by the system," Superhot Team says of the new expansion. "As you unlock powerful abilities and gain access to new playable characters, so will your enemies grow stronger, smarter and more desperate to stop you.”
There's a build coming tomorrow via Early Access to test out with two playable characters for testing purposes. Both have new animations, as well as special qualities and abilities. You'll also see the beginning framework of procedurally-generated levels, though the developers say to take it with a grain of salt: It's an "extremely early, bleeding-edge version" of those systems.
Superhot is currently available for purchase on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, though Mind Control Delete will only be up for grabs via Early Access and is planned for a 2018 release.
