The new Survival Mode in Skyrim Special Edition is now available to download and try for free.

Part of the new Creation Club update, which allows players to craft their own mods and submit to Bethesda for approval, Survival Mode is an intriguing mod for the role-playing game that implements a selection of survival-based features that players must watch out for in addition to the dangers of Skyrim in general.

For instance, the status effect Hunger will eat away at Stamina when there isn't enough food being consumed. Raw meat could end up saddling your character with the Food Poisoning condition, just like in real life. Similarly, Fatigue and Cold are also concerning ailments that must be resolved as soon as possible to keep your character alive.

In addition, fast travel is disabled and there is no health regeneration. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to everything Survival Mode changes up to make the game more challenging. It's nearly like playing a completely different title when you add up all the changes implemented with the mod.

The mode will be free until Oct. 10 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It's only available for purchase via the Creation Club, so make sure you have that handy before going to download the mod.
