How to get Shiny Pokémon in Ultra Sun and Moon
Shiny Pokemon are extremely rare, alternate-colored Pokemon that are available to catch in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon.
The game introduces a ton of new methods for catching those hard-to-find Shiny Pokémon while also implementing some returning features from Sun and Moon, to give players a wealth of options to suit each playstyle.
It is worth mentioning that The Pokémon Company created a special item in-game called the Shiny Charm, which boosts the chance of encountering a Shiny Pokémon by three. The Shiny Charm can only be obtained by completing the Alola Pokédex and talking to the Game Director NPC in Heahea City Game Freak Office.
S.O.S. Battles are feature that were introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. They allow wild Pokémon to call for help when they are low on health, bringing in a new Pokémon to battle, creating a double team against your single Pokémon.
If a player chooses to keep one Pokémon on low health and kill off the strongest Pokémon again and again, it will start a chain. The more Pokémon that are called in for help, the larger the chain gets, and the more likely you are to get a Shiny Pokémon.
To activate S.O.S. battles, players can use an Adrenaline Orb, which they can buy from any Poké Mart. You should try to use a Pokémon that knows False Swipe on your team when Shiny Chaining, so that you don't accidentally kill a Pokémon and break the chain.
Not every Pokemon will call for help, however. These include Butterfree, Poliwrath, Gengar, Exeggutor, Chansey, Starmie, Snorlax, Dragonite, Crobat, Sudowoodo, Politoed, Espeon, Umbreon, Sableye, Castform, Salamance, Happiny, Gabite, Lucario, Vanillite, Vanillish, Pangoro, Goomy, Mareanie, Wimpod, Minior, Komala, and Kommo-o.
Shiny Ultra Wormholes
By taking advantage of one of Ultra Sun and Moon's newest features, Ultra Wormholes, players have a chance to get a small selection of Shiny Pokémon with ease.
A shiny Ultra Wormhole with a rainbow-like sphere will sometimes appear in Ultra Space. These Ultra Wormholes are extremely common but are difficult to navigate when it comes to the in-game mini game.
If a player can successfully navigate through the Ultra Wormhole, they will come out of the other side into one of the mainy Ultra Space Wilds and will be able to see the Shiny Pokémon they have encountered. If they don't like the one they have found, then they will need to find another portal and hope for the best next time.
Breeding Shiny Pokémon sounds complicated, but it is actually pretty simple. All you have to do is get two Pokémon of different regions to breed and it gives you a higher chance of getting a Shiny Pokémon. It is also known as the Masuda Method.
This guide will be updated as new methods are uncovered.
