Old school shooter fans, clear your schedule. Quake Champions is opening its doors for a nine-day stress test starting on May 12, Bethesda announced today.
The closed beta had been running for a few weeks now, with everyone who had access under a non-disclosure agreement. Starting this weekend, the game can finally be streamed and recorded for uploading videos. The “large-scale stress test” will last until May 21 and it is open to everyone.
The game currently has nine playable Champions, each with their own unique ability, movement speed, armor, and health. Its fast-paced, frenetic FPS gameplay is a callback to shooters of a time long gone, like its namesake suggests.
When Quake Champions releases, it will be free-to-play. But players will have the option to purchase the game to unlock all of its launch characters. Otherwise, they will have to use in-game currency to unlock them for a short time.
Along with the technical test, a new game mode will also be available. The four-versus-four mode named Sacrifice will force you to “[p]ick your teams and Champions wisely and work together to dominate the Arena in this new mode,” according to Bethesda.
