Someone managed to speedrun Portal without using a single portal

That's not how the game was meant to be played.

A speedrunner has managed to beat Portal in under an hour—without even using the game's eponymous gun.

The speedrun was thought to be impossible for many years, until a new save glitch method was discovered. The glitch allowed players to travel through walls by saving the game and reloading the save as quickly as possible. By doing this players can bypass walls and entire levels in the game without the use of portals.

The speedrunner big-cut was fully prepared to spend up to hours attempting to get certain tricks in the speedrun, such as Trial 02's door launch glitch which tasks the player with jumping in a pixel-perfect direction before he saves to bypass the level. Big-cut managed to get the trick in less than five minutes.

The Portal speedrun isn't the most entertaining to watch for a viewer unless you are interested in seeing a game broken beyond repair. The speedrun uses multiple frame perfect glitches that many speedrunners thought only a computer could do—until now.

It just goes to show what can happen when the speedrun community comes together to try and make the impossible, possible. When the right glitch is found that can be replicated by a human being, new categories for speedrunners favorite games can come to life.

Here's hoping for a Portal 2 no portals speedrun in the future.
