We already know Pokémon is massively popular, but now we have some numbers to back it up. The latest issue of the Japanese publication Famitsu has revealed that, as a whole, the Pokémon series has shipped over 300 million copies worldwide.

That number not only includes the core Pokémon games like Red and Blue, Gold and Silver, and so on, but all 76 of the games released from February 1996 through November 2017 with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon. It also includes all the download sales from those who opted to purchase digital copies over boxed versions.

These are impressive sales indeed, especially with a series that's primarily been based on handhelds since its inception. Players have been clamoring for a "full-fledged" Pokémon title on a console like the Switch for some time, and with Nintendo's declaration that Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon will be the final games based on Nintendo 3DS, that could very well happen soon.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon is available now on Nintendo 3DS.
