A well-known legendary bird is set to join Pokémon Go for a limited time. The colorful Flying/Fire-type Pokémon Ho-Oh is now available to challenge in Raid Battles until Dec. 12.

This is the ultimate reward for the due diligence players showed during a recent event, which had them scrambling to catch as many Pokémon as they could for three different tiers of rewards.

Trainers captured three billion Pokémon as part of the recent Global Catch Challenge, which ultimately offered the chance to capture Farfetch'd, which was previously a Japan-only exclusive. Japanese players were given the opportunity to capture Kangaskhan, which was previously only available in Australia.

Farfetch'd was only available for 48 hours, and that window of time has since ended, but no one expected a big surprise like this one to ultimately reward players for playing the game so much and capturing so many Pokémon. Once Farfetch'd was released to the masses, players were under the impression the event was over and done for, and then this surprise was sprung on us.

Over the next two weeks, Ho-Oh will be available to all players, and not as an EX Raid Boss. This is a huge deal, as it will now be the second strongest Pokémon in the game behind Mewtwo, and with such a limited event, this may be the last time players see it in the game for a while.

If you're looking to build a complete Pokédex in Pokémon Go, make sure you head out there and grab this legendary bird before time runs out.
