G2 Esports To Live Stream on Facebook

G2 Esports announced today that fans can watch their favorite players streaming on Facebook Live starting Feb. 1.

This is not the beginning of a movement away from Twitch, however, as players are not banned from streaming on the popular site. G2 is simply incorporating Facebook into its larger social media and interaction plan.

“One of G2’s biggest goals is to share our love of this industry with all fans by making our content as accessible as we can, while also helping lesser-known streamers looking to make a name for themselves,” G2 founder and CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago said in the announcement. “We pride ourselves on innovation, and by leaning into Facebook as an audience platform, we see a world of new opportunities beyond what the current streaming ecosystem offers.”

Adding Facebook into their media strategy makes G2’s content more accessible than ever for casual fans, and exposes fans to things that average streaming sites cannot. While G2 players will still be allowed to stream on Twitch, G2’s Facebook content will include “gameplay broadcasts across multiple titles, behind-the-scenes footage from events, and a wide range of VOD content.”
