DreamHack Winter will host a $50,000 Legacy of the Void tournament from Nov. 26 to 29, just a few short weeks after the expansion’s Nov. 10 initial release.

The new expansion features a storyline centered on the Protoss race, but it also brings some of the largest changes to the series’ multiplayer since StarCraft 2 itself. In addition to the typical new units, buildings, and abilities introduced with every expansion, Legacy of the Void makes sweeping changes to the game’s economy, starting players with more workers in a bid to speed up games. It also introduces an automated tournament system designed to give players a more pro-like playing experience versus queueing for the ladder.

DreamHack Winter will be the game’s first big live tournament, with $20,000 going to the eventual champion. A series of qualifiers will select 24 players to compete at the event.

Of course, it isn’t the first tourney featuring the expansion. Legacy of the Void is currently in beta with open access for people who pre-order the game. And events like the Red Bull Battlegrounds have already featured some of the beta-tested features, such as Archon Mode, which allows two players to take control of a single base and set of units.

But DreamHack Winter will crown the first official Legacy of the Void champion. Many pros are already inevitably practicing for an event like it. The top 16 players worldwide will battle to become world champions at Blizzcon from Nov. 6 to 7, but many other are already playing the new expansion.

Lotv is unbalanced now. but much more funny than Hots.
