British esports organization Team Dignitas announced this week the signing of Ryan “Prodigal Son” Hart, an acclaimed fighting game competitor most notable for his play in the Street Fighter and Tekken series of games.

Hart, who’s based in the United Kingdom, had been paying for travel to events largely through his own finances. His performances at some of those events, including first-place finishes in the Street Fighter IV tournaments at major competitions Final Round and UFGT, were enough to convince management at Dignitas to bring him into the fold.

A sponsor finally picked me up, I’m now going CEO and EVO!!!! Yesssss! 😀 😀 😀 #tooawesomeforcrowdfunding #payingformyflightspaidoff 🙂

“I am very happy and proud to have the opportunity to represent Dignitas and I will be training very hard to ensure that I maintain my level in all areas,” Hart said in a statement.

He’s already set to attend his first major with Dignitas at CEO this weekend in Orlando, Florida and is also booked to attend the year’s biggest fighting game competition, Evo, which will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada starting July 11.

Hart has also qualified for this year’s Capcom Cup. Players must qualify for that tournament by either winning sanctioned tournaments or accruing a certain number of points at those events. Hart’s multiple titles earlier in the year put him among the first to ensure their participation in Capcom’s headline event.
