The Destiny 2 beta is ending tonight, but there are still reasons to be excited about the game leading up to its release.

Bungie Crucible design lead Lars Bakken sat down with IGN to explore a brand-new Crucible map called Altar of Flame, which is set on Mercury. More importantly, though, is the reveal of a brand new game mode in Destiny 2 called Survival.

Bakken described Survival as the spiritual successor to the original Destiny game mode Skirmish. It will be available in Destiny 2's Competitive playlist, Bakken said.

In the four-on-four mode, each team starts with eight lives that is shared among its players. As they are killed, they will automatically respawn, until their lives are depleted. Once a team's lives are depleted, the round is over, and the first team to win three rounds wins the game.

Bakken said that one Power ammo spawn will force the issue in the mode where players can fight around a central location, causing them to clash in the area. The player who holds the Power ammo holds the real power in this mode.

Survival is the latest example of Bungie's attempt to make Crucible more competitive, inluding the limitation to four-on-four in all modes, adding universal cooldowns to grenades and melees, and making the game feel slower overall.

The new Crucible mode will be playable when Destiny 2 launches on Sept. 6 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the PC version available on Oct. 24.
