PlayStation Plus' monthly free games offering is upon us, and this time around, a major PlayStation series has a title available. PlayStation Plus users can download and play Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain for free during October.

Metal Gear Solid 5 serves as the final Hideo Kojima-directed installment in the Metal Gear Solid series, bridging Big Boss' journey in Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker with the course of events that leads to both Metal Gear and the original Metal Gear Solid.

Considered one of the most ambitious Metal Gear releases in recent years, the game's second half remains controversial with fans, in part because of Konami's treatment towards and inevitable ouster of Kojima during development. Still, many praise the game as a proper end to the Kojima years, even if it raises more questions than it answers.

Alongside Metal Gear Solid 5, Amnesia: Collection is available, featuring both The Dark Descent, as well as the sequel, A Machine for Pigs. The Amnesia series has been hailed as a proper take on first-person horror, with both games remaining particularly popular among fans and critics.

PlayStation 3 players can also grab Hustle Kings and Monster Jam Battlegrounds, while Hue and Sky Force Anniversary are available for PlayStation Vita. You can check out the full October PlayStation Plus free games listing on the official PlayStation Blog.
