FIFA 18 players on Nintendo Switch won't be playing online multiplayer with their friends any time soon. Initial reports reveal that FIFA 18's Switch version lacks support for multiplayer invites.

Nintendo Switch's friends list doesn't come with invites to bring friends or groups into multiplayer matches. As a result, FIFA 18 players can only play online multiplayer with strangers. Previous Nintendo Switch games have gotten around the built-in friends' list problem by programming multiplayer invites into their games, but FIFA 18 lacks this solution from EA. So while games like Splatoon 2 allow friends to hop online and play together, FIFA 18 fans on Switch have to go solo or local for now.

It remains unclear if Nintendo will upgrade its friends list to support invites or if FIFA 18 will receive multiplayer friends lists in the near future. For now, though, Nintendo Switch owners can't hang out with their friends online. And that missing feature may impact whether fans pick up the game on Switch or another platform. FIFA 18 launched on Sept. 29 for PC, Switch, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
