The second half of the Capcom Pro Tour just got even more jam-packed.
Capcom announced dates and details for eight online Street Fighter V tournaments for the 2016 Capcom Pro Tour on Monday. The online events had been announced as part of the Tour in February, but no further information had been given about them until Monday’s announcement.
The first online event, which is open to North American players, will be held this Sunday. The 256-player tournament begins at 1pm ET/10am PT. The top 16 players will compete on the Capcom Fighters Twitch stream at 7pm ET/4pm PT.
The confirmation of the online tournaments means that 41 Pro Tour events will take place between now and the end of October. By comparison, 23 Pro Tour events were held in the first 22 weeks of the season.
The online events will be run by Level Up Live, the organization behind SoCal Regionals and Wednesday Night Fights. The company partnered with Capcom last year to run a pair of online tournaments, although those were not part of the 2015 Pro Tour.
Two 256-player online tournaments will be held in each of the Pro Tour’s four regions: North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Registration for each event will open approximately a week before the tournament and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. This Sunday’s North American event reached its 256-player cap within two hours of its announcement, and the other events are likely to reach their limits just as quickly.
Players in Europe, North America, and Latin America are eligible to enter both of the online tournaments in their respective regions. Players from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan can only enter the Oct. 22 event, while the rest of Asia (excluding mainland China) can only enter the Aug. 27 tournament.
The dates of the online tournaments will force some players to choose between online and offline events. The first Asian online event, which is the only one Australian players can enter, will take place the same weekend as OzHadou Nationals in Sydney. Likewise, European players will have to choose between traveling to Dublin for Celtic Throwdown or participating in the second European online qualifier.
