Fortnite’s eighth season is about to end, and we’re literally in the endgame now.
The last update of the season, the v8.50 Content Update, is coming this week. Most of the changes and additions that are coming will probably be carried over to season nine, which starts next week. But very few changes should be coming as part of this Content Update.
If Epic follows its usual update release pattern, players will see the v8.50 Content Update dropping on Tuesday or Wednesday around 4am CT. That’s when the patch notes should be released and, if needed, Epic will take down the game’s servers to deploy the update. Most Content Updates don’t require any server downtime, though.
Not much is confirmed about the v8.50 update yet, but we know a new item is coming and new developments for the season eight end event should unfold. Here’s what to expect for season eight’s last update.
The new item Shadow Bomb is “coming soon” to Fortnite: Battle Royale, according to Epic. That actually means it’s coming in the next update, and players can assume Shadow Bombs will be part of the v8.50 Content Update. The in-game message says “stealth and utility make for a surprise.”
If the name is a preview of what’s coming, players can expect the Shadow Bomb to become a portable Shadow Stone that they can use to go into shadow form or force their opponents into it.
Fortnite data miners found that Overtime challenges are coming back for season eight. But this time, they won’t let you get a free Battle Pass for the next season. This new set will allow players to complete a few more challenges to unlock exclusive variants for the season eight Battle Pass skins Sidewinder, Ember, and Master Key in tones of blue and silver. Other rewards seem to include bonus XP points.
Overtime challenges could come as early as the v8.50 Content Update’s release, or on Thursday with the week 10 challenges at the latest.
The Loot Lake mystery should be close to being solved once the v8.50 Content Update is released. A new video that data miner Lucas7yoshi published shows a huge energy sphere could come out of the hatch and give players the power to vote for a vaulted item to come back to the game. Nothing is confirmed yet, but it should be as soon as the fifth rune is plugged in with the rest. It’s expected to spawn today or tomorrow, and this new update might bring everything players need to close season eight and start season nine.
Epic should confirm the release date of the v8.50 Content Update soon on social media. Season eight ends on May 8, when season nine starts.
