Smug staged an impressive comeback against NuckleDu, coming back from 2-0 down to win the grand finals 3-2 when everyone thought NuckleDu had forced the reset against his opponent.

The turnaround from Smug in game three of the series showcased unprecedented levels of skill from the player who many thought had fallen asleep in the first two games.

NuckleDu had been playing Guile in his last matches and switched up to R.Mika to face Smugs Balrog. The opening two rounds looked promising off the back of an impress five game series in the previous round against Red Bulls’ Oliver “Luffy” Hay.

The win means that Smug takes home the grand prize of $7000, NuckleDu picking up a respectful $4000 for finishing in second place.

The Capcom Cup 2016 champion was looking for a tournament win after finishing third overall at Final Round 20, the first Capcom Premier event of the year.

The third placed fighter, Luffy, suffered from fatigue going into the match with NuckleDu, coming off the match against Arubi “RB” Kao which also went to a full five sets.  NuckleDu was able to capitalize on some mistimed plays by his opponent to win the five-game series.

With the tournament wrapped up, most of the fighters will begin preparation for the  ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational, which begins on March 27.
