MenaRD wins Game Over 2017

The first SFV ranking event of the year is over.

After finishing 25th at Final Round 20 earlier this month, Street Fighter V player Saul Leonardo “MenaRD” Mena Segundo took first place at Game Over this past weekend.

The event was held from March 25 to 26 at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and was the first ranking event and first Latin American event for the 2017 season of the Capcom Cup. With 160 Capcom Cup Pro Tour points up for grabs, the tournament was hotly contested between the regional players, all hoping to give themselves a boost in the Capcom leaderboards.

MenaRD was up against Ricardo “Mono” Roman Ithier in the grand finals, after sending the player to the loser’s bracket during their top 16 matchup earlier in the day.

MenaRD claimed the title 2-1 in a hotly contested battle between the two players. Mono looked like he was about to reset the bracket, and give him a fighting chance of stealing a win with his impressive F.A.N.G plays, but MenaRD remained cool and collected to dispatch his opponent in convincing fashion.

MenaRD had to secure this win after a disappointing showing at Final Round 20, where he was only able to secure ten points towards the Capcom Cup leaderboard.

The win at Game Over means that MenaRD gains 160 points on the Capcom Cup leaderboard, moving him into fourth place on the global rankings. He will now be looking to use this win to springboard his chances of reaching the Capcom Cup finals at the end of the season.

The next event on the SFV calendar is the ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational later today, where we finally get to see who will make it out of the preliminaries and move into the $250,000 main event.

The players that attended Game Over will not be part of ELEAGUE, as they weren’t invited. If MenaRD continues to improve after the performance we saw at the Game Over grand finals, however, it won’t be long until he becomes a household name worthy of being included at any future ELEAGUE events.
