Legendary Chinese team returns to Dota 2 pro scene after 2-year hiatus

Vici Gaming, one of China’s most storied Dota 2 organizations, has officially announced its long-awaited return to professional competition after a two-year break.

The comeback arrives just ahead of The International 2026, which will be held in Shanghai, marking a symbolic homecoming for both the team and Chinese esports. The announcement, made through Vici Gaming’s official Weibo account, quickly ignited excitement among fans, signaling the revival of a legendary name in Dota 2 history.

For years, Vici Gaming has stood as a powerhouse in the global Dota 2 scene, boasting elite rosters and consistently securing podium finishes. Their sudden exit in 2023 left a noticeable gap in the competitive landscape, and fans have eagerly awaited their return ever since. Now, with Chinese Dota 2 regaining momentum ahead of TI 2026, the organization has rebuilt with a balance of experience and fresh ambition.

The new lineup brings together some of the region’s most talented players. Lou, formerly of Xtreme Gaming, joins forces with Xm, TI 2025 runner-up. They’re supported by Ws from Talon Esports, pyw from Azure Ray, and veteran Dy, who comes out of retirement for this revival. Maps will be the coach of this roster, while planet is set to stand in for pyw during their first tournament, FISSURE Playground 2, as pyw celebrates his wedding.

With The International 2026 set to take place in Shanghai for the first time since 2019, the event has heightened expectations for Chinese teams to deliver on home soil. Valve’s co-founder, Gabe Newell, confirmed Shanghai as the host city during TI 2025, reinforcing China’s lasting influence on the Dota 2 scene and the region’s continued importance in global esports.

Vici Gaming’s comeback marks a defining moment for the region, with their debut at FISSURE Playground 2 on Oct. 23.
