This is the end of an era for SEA Dota 2.

BOOM Esports has officially closed its Dota 2 division, bringing an end to one of Southeast Asia’s long-running presences in the scene.

The announcement went live on Dec. 8 through the team’s social channels, where they thanked their players and supporters while hinting that a new direction is already taking shape for the organization.

In their statement on X (formerly Twitter), BOOM shared a message that resonated across the SEA community: “Today we say farewell to our Dota 2 division. A journey filled with passion, challenges, and memories we will always carry with us. Thank you to every player who wore the BOOM jersey with pride. Thank you to the Hungry Beast for standing beside us through every high and every low.”

The post included images of their past rosters and memorable tournament moments, serving as a tribute to the team’s years of competition.

BOOM first entered Dota 2 in 2017 and went on to become a familiar name at Majors and The International qualifiers. The organization enjoyed strong regional support, but recent seasons were difficult. Their results dipped across 2024 and 2025, with performances that often ended in early exits from group stages or struggles in lower-tier events.

The final roster of TIMS, JaCkky, Armel, Jabz, and Jaunuel came together after several shuffles over the last two years. Prior departures, such as Fbz and Mac, were marked with their own farewell posts, reflecting the constant rebuilding phase the team faced.

At The International 2025, BOOM’s run ended in the group stage after a 1-2 loss to Wildcard, adding to a string of challenging results that preceded the shutdown.

The team framed this decision as a transition rather than a disappearance. Their announcement closed with the line, “Stay with us as we begin our next adventure,” suggesting a shift toward strengthening other divisions or exploring new scenes. BOOM Esports already fields rosters in VALORANT, PUBG Mobile, and Honor of Kings, so the organization has no shortage of competitive footholds to build on.

The future of the outgoing Dota 2 players is now open, with Liquipedia and other tracking sites already listing them as free agents. Given their experience and visibility in the SEA region, many expect them to find new homes as the season continues.

For Indonesian and SEA fans, the news marks the end of an era. BOOM’s Dota 2 journey produced memorable highs, painful lows, and a strong identity that resonated throughout the region. With the division now closed, attention turns to what the organization’s next chapter will bring and where the former roster members will continue their careers.
