How to complete Shadows on the Wall in Disney Dreamlight Valley

There's always a riddle, and this quest is no exception.

If you’ve just wrapped up A Forgotten Name and given The Forgotten a name (finally), then you’ll be able to immediately start Shadows on the Wall. This mission takes you back to Skull Rock and introduces a new puzzle, a bit of shadowy mystery, and a dash of Disney magic. Here’s how to complete the quest from start to finish.

To kick things off, head to Skull Rock with The Forgotten. You’ll find this spooky landmark in the southeast corner of Dazzle Beach.

Visit Skull Rock and look for clues

Once inside, you’ll notice a shadow darting around. Both you and The Forgotten are unsure what it is, but you agree to search for clues.

Keep an eye out for a glowing dig spot near the locked gate in the upper area (above the ship). Use your shovel there to unearth a broken lantern. Show it to The Forgotten, which leads you to your next task: finding more lanterns and fixing them.

Find and repair the Pixie Dust Lanterns

You need three broken lanterns total. Here’s where to find them:

  • First Lantern: Up the ramp inside Skull Rock, near a gold treasure pile. Dig it up with your shovel.
  • Second and Third Lanterns: Head back down to the bottom floor and use your Fishing Rod at the two orange ripple spots near the pirate ship (they’re on either side of the dock).

With all three in hand, it’s time to gather materials to fix them. You’ll need:

  • 3 Gold Ingots: Craft them using 5 Gold Nuggets and 1 Coal Ore each.
  • 9 Glass: Made from 5 Sand and 1 Coal Ore per piece.
  • 9 Vitalys Crystals: Mined from the Vitalys Mines in Sunlit Plateau.
  • 3 Pixie Dust Orbs: These appear around the valley as glowing golden orbs. Look on bridges in the Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust, or by ponds in the Forgotten Lands.

Once you have everything, craft the Pixie Dust Lanterns under Functional Items at any workbench (there’s one inside Skull Rock near the exit).

Head back to Skull Rock and attach the newly fixed lanterns to the winches around The Forgotten in the upper area. As you go to start rotating the winches, a Shadow will make itself known.

Your job is to trap it, so rotate each winch to shine the lanterns’ light on the wooden wall to the right of The Forgotten so that all three illuminate the same spot.

After you “speak” to the Shadow, you’ll need to move one of the lantern lights again to the opposite wall. This will let the Shadow zoom across to the other side of the area, next to the Jade Skulls.

Speak with the Jade Skulls

Speak to the Jade Skulls and you’ll be tasked with answering three riddles. If you’re stuck, here are the answers:

  1. A pirate ship
  2. A pixie
  3. A pan flute

Once you’ve answered all three correctly, turn the wheel on the wall to the left of the Jade Skulls to complete the quest. It’s that easy! You’ll start the next quest, A Ship of Gold, automatically.
