Ribbontail god rolls and how to get them in Destiny 2

A trace with a different model?

The Arms Week event in Destiny 2 brought a couple of new weapons to the sandbox. While the Spread Shot hand cannon is taking the spotlight, there’s also the Ribbontail trace rifle, which is a solid weapon if you don’t feel like farming dungeons.

As a Strand Adaptive Frame trace rifle, Ribbontail’s main competition is Unsworn from the Sundered Doctrine dungeon. Both have similar perk pools, but different Origin Traits, and Ribbontail is also a part of the new loot tier system.

Here are our Ribbontail god rolls for PvE and PvP in Destiny 2.

What is the Ribbontail god roll in Destiny 2?

Ribbontail PvE god roll

  • Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling
  • Battery: Enhanced Battery
  • Perk one: Subsistence
  • Perk two: Detonator Beam or Killing Tally
  • Masterwork: Reload Speed

Ribbontail PvP god roll

  • Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling
  • Battery: Projection Fuse
  • Perk one: Transcendent Zen
  • Perk two: Killing Tally
  • Masterwork: Range

The PvE perk choice is quite basic on Ribbontail. In the third column, there’s Subsistence, which partially reloads the weapon from reserves after you defeat a target. You can pair it with Detonator Beam for single-target damage, or Killing Tally for add clear.

Ribbontail may not be as good as Unsworn when it comes to Strand synergy, but it can offer slightly superior damage if you stack the Tenacity Origin Trait by getting kills near enemies. Every kill grants increased damage (10 percent at maximum stacks), reload speed, and handling until you die.

A more niche PvE combination would be Proximity Power with Surrounded. This can work if you’re trying to take advantage of Tenacity as much as possible and get into enemies’ faces. Proximity Power buffs your melee stat while Surrounded grants 40 percent increased damage when near three or more enemies.

On the PvP side of things, traces have never been a go-to pick for a Special weapon. If you just want to have fun playing laser tag, there’s Transcendent Moment in the third column for extra range and aim assist, and Killing Tally in the fourth column for increased damage after securing a kill.

How to get Ribbontail in Destiny 2

Weapon focusing depends on the week. Screenshot by Dot Esports

Ribbontail is available during the Arms Week event in Destiny 2Farm Combat Telemetry by completing activities in the Portal, and spend it on Arms Week engrams at Ada-1 in the Shooting Range. You can then focus engrams on specific weapons, higher-tier engrams, or simply open them at Rahool.

Opening base engrams only grants you Tier 1 loot, which isn’t something you should be going for. Instead, try to focus on higher-tier engrams. You can get copies of Ribbontail, the new Phoneutria Fera Spread Shot hand cannon, and even Holofoil versions of either of those weapons.

Depending on the Arms Week’s featured archetype, you may not be able to focus the trace rifle specifically. In that case, focus engrams and hope it drops.
