Festival of the Lost 2025 introduced a new activity to Destiny 2, Haunted Altars, a mix between Onslaught and Altars of Sorrow. If you’re playing the activity, there are a few weapons to grind for, including the Gunburn SMG.
Gunburn is a Lightweight Frame (900RPM) Kinetic submachine gun. If you enjoyed using Multimach CCX and Submission before, this might be the weapon for you. Unlike older weapons, it’s a part of the tiered system and comes with a few new perks.
Here are our Gunburn god rolls for PvE and PvP in Destiny 2.

What is the Gunburn god roll in Destiny 2?

Gunburn PvE god roll
- Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling
- Magazine: Tactical Mag
- Perk one: Bewildering Burst
- Perk two: Kinetic Tremors
- Masterwork: Reload Speed
Gunburn PvP god roll
- Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
- Magazine: Accurized Rounds
- Perk one: Lone Wolf
- Perk two: Target Lock
- Masterwork: Range
This weapon has Kinetic Tremors in the fourth column, so if you used Multimach CCX before, this one might also be for you. While it can’t roll together with Attrition Orbs because it’s also in the fourth column, there’s a new perk, Bewildering Burst.
Bewildering Burst works similarly to Voltshot, but Kinetic. Reloading the weapon after getting a kill loads a disorienting projectile. It adds a nice bit of utility, similar to how some grenade launchers have disorienting grenades.
If you want to lean into Orb generation, like on Multimach CCX, there’s a new way to do it with Lead from Light and Attrition Orbs. Lead from Light grants extra Special ammo progress when defeating a target after picking up an Orb of Power. And Attirition Orbs generates Orbs when dealing sustained damage. In the case of submachine guns, it requires landing 67 percent of the magazine.
For PvP, there’s only one roll, and that’s Lone Wolf with Target Lock. Target Lock has long been a staple perk for rapid-fire weapons, including auto rifles like Auric Disabler, making the weapon more forgiving. With Target Lock, you only need 11 precision hits to reach the optimal time-to-kill as opposed to 11 precision hits and one body shot.
Lone Wolf is the only decent perk in the third column. It grants five aim assist at base, doubling the effects when no allies are nearby. You could also go for Threat Detector to increase stability and handling when enemies are within 15 meters, but that only works on tighter maps or if paired with a weapon to cover medium ranges.
How to get Gunburn in Destiny 2

Gunburn is only available during the Festival of the Lost event. There are two event activities: Haunted Altars, a six-player PvE activity, and Red Rum(ble) PvP activity. Both award multiple event drops as completion rewards.
You don’t have to play them if you don’t want to, though. Some regular Portal activities have the Festival of the Lost Bonus drop available (grey icon next to Bonus Drops), which means completing it also awards event loot.
All the event loot drops at a higher Tier compared to your regular loot, so if you’re above 400 Power, you can easily grind Tier 5 weapons by doing anything mentioned above.
