How to beat Springtrap in Dead By Daylight

Springtrap, known as The Animatronic in Dead By Daylight, has a single fire axe that he uses to either injure or down the Survivor, or to reveal their position with Killer Instinct. When the fire axe is ready to throw, Springtrap moves at 110% speed. And once he throws the axe, his speed increases to 115%. This means you should always be aware of whether he has his axe in his hand, so you know what speed he will be walking.

Every match with Springtrap features Security Rooms scattered throughout the map. Both Survivors and Springtrap can use these to move from one place to another. To utilize these rooms effectively, a Survivor should access the cameras, scan around the map to find Springtrap, and watch him for a short while. Doing this highlights Springtrap’s position to everyone on the map, making it easier to loop and escape him during chases.

Be very wary using the Security Rooms, however, and only access them when you know Springtrap is in a chase, carrying or hooking a Survivor, or breaking pallets or kicking generators. This is to ensure you won’t be caught by Springtrap while using the cameras or walking through the room. If you get caught, Springtrap can grab and jumpscare you, and he automatically gets to pick you up and take you to a hook. The best way to avoid being caught using the Security Room is to have aura perks in your build.

  • Use aura-reading perks such as:
    • Alert
    • Kindred
    • Dark Sense
    • Fogwise
    • Eyes of Belmont
    • Hardened
    • Invocation: Treacherous Crows
    • Still Sight
    • Wiretap

When Springtrap exits his Security Room, he gets 20 seconds of Undetectable status that can be increased if he uses specific add-ons. To counter this, use some speedy perks to get away quickly.

  • Use speed-boosting perks such as:
    • Sprint Burst
    • Overcome
    • Dramaturgy
    • Lithe
    • Balanced Landing
    • Boon: Dark Theory
    • Urban Evasion (for crouching away unseen)

Best builds to counter Springtrap

We recommend perk builds that contain aura-reading and movement/speed perks to counter Springtrap as a Survivor. The first build you should try is a speed and aura build designed to help you escape while in a chase:

  • Sprint Burst (Meg Thomas)
    • An exhaustion perk that grants 50% haste for 3 seconds with a 40 second cooldown.
  • Windows of Opportunity (Kate Denson)
    • Allows you to see auras of windows and pallets around the map within 32 meters.
  • Urban Evasion (Nea Karlsson)
    • Increases movement speed while crouching by 100%.
  • Alert (Feng Min)
    • Allows you to see the Killer’s aura is revealed to you for 5 seconds when they perform a break or damage action.

A build that may help your team during a Springtrap game is a Boon build. This is a risky build, and depends on Totem placement, but it can really help other Survivors.

  • Boon: Dark Theory
    • Grants a 2% haste to all within the Boon radius that lingers for 4 seconds after the Survivor leaves the area.
  • Boon: Shadow Step
    • All scratch marks are suppressed within the Boon area and Survivor auras are hidden from the Killer.
  • Boon: Exponential
    • All Survivors can recover from dying state while within the Boon area.
  • Boon: Circle of Healing
    • Grants a healing speed boost when healing other Survivors by 100% when not using a med kit. Auras of injured Survivors are shown in the Boon area.
