Valve has rolled out a CS2 update introducing TrueView, a new addition to the game’s demo playback system.

The fresh replay feature is designed to more accurately mirror “the player’s original experience much more closely.”The CS2 update also includes several movement and gameplay adjustments.

Here’s a full breakdown of the CS2 patch notes released on Nov. 4.

TrueView aims to address the discrepancies players often notice between recorded demos and real-time gameplay. Previously, demo playback was based on the server’s perspective, which didn’t account for network latency or client-side prediction. As a result, you would sometimes see shots connect or miss in ways that didn’t match your experience.

TrueView solves the issue by re-running the observed player’s client-side prediction, offering a far more accurate representation of what you saw and felt during the match.

There are, however, some important caveats to TrueView’s functionality. It will only predict damage if your Damage Prediction was active at the time of recording, and the viewer’s own settings won’t influence the playback.

TrueView also automatically deactivates if the demo is viewed on a different game version than the one it was recorded on. Even when active, slight discrepancies may still occur, especially in slow-motion playback, due to differences in how the CPU and GPU process effects like damage timing.

Movement changes and gameplay fixes

Alongside TrueView, the latest CS2 update also includes changes to the surfing movement, as well as a few fixes aimed at improving gameplay consistency.

Valve has addressed an issue where air acceleration was being incorrectly clamped during surfing, ensuring smoother movement for players who enjoy surf mechanics. Another fix resolves a problem where slowly surfing up a ramp was sometimes misidentified by the game as reaching a jump apex, which could disrupt momentum and lead to inconsistent results during movement-based gameplay.

An animation issue affecting the G3SG1’s bolt has been corrected, improving visual fidelity for the automatic sniper rifle. The developer console’s scrollbar now properly responds to mouse clicks, enhancing usability for players and creators who rely on console commands. Lastly, Valve fixed a bug that caused the “Delay Sniper Rifle Un-Scope after Shot” setting to behave inconsistently, making sniping more predictable.
