Baskonia eSports was announced on January 7th, 2016, as an esports division fully integrated under Spanish basketball team Saski Baskonia with rosters in Counter-Strike, FIFA, Hearthstone, League of Legends, and NBA 2K. On February 17th, Baskonia announced the signing of a Call of Duty team, consisting of FlexZ, GameR, GoobZ, and peLukaa. GoobZ left the team and subsequently announced his retirement from competitive gaming on March 5th. Three days later, Baskonia signed former Giants Gaming player, EupHo.
On June 8th, 2016, with the arrival of the new sponsor Thunder X3 the team was renamed ThunderX3 Baskonia.
