Call of Duty: Warzone set to add big map rotation for early 2026

Rotational shifts on the way.

Warzone developer Raven Software has dropped its plans for Call of Duty‘s battle royale mode, with the biggest highlight being the addition of big map rotation for early 2026.

This is a massive overhaul to how things have always been for CoD’s BR counterpart, as it will follow other battle royale titles like Apex Legends.

The battle royale genre remains at the heart of Warzone’s identity, and the devs want to expand it without losing what makes it special in the first place. And one of the biggest changes on the horizon is the return of multiple large-scale maps, something fans have been requesting for years.

Raven Software confirmed via their official X post that they’ve reworked backend systems to make true map rotation possible across Warzone’s main modes. They have also confirmed that it will not arrive alongside Black Ops 7’s launch on Nov. 14, rather it’s set to roll out early 2026. The exact date and time are yet to be revealed by them.

They also addressed their approach to updates, and said: “The goal is balance: keep things moving without forgetting about seasonal support and quality-of-life improvements.”

Resurgence isn’t being left behind, either. Devs admitted that maps like Rebirth Island have started to feel “a bit stale” and confirmed a full refresh is on the way in Season 2 with new POIs, visual upgrades, and improved map flow.

Before that happens, you get to drop into Haven’s Hollow, the new Season 1 Resurgence map, followed by a map rotation for this mode shortly after, alternating between it and Rebirth Island. The team also teased that Fortune’s Keep is being reworked for a comeback later in 2025.

Beyond launch updates, Raven Software is also taking bigger swings with how Warzone evolves over the year. Live updates will be faster, including at least two major balance passes per season. Warzone-specific balance changes are being introduced for weapons on top of standard seasonal tuning, while touching ground loot, perks, equipment, and contracts more often than before.
