Game Pass ready or not?

Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, recent fan-favorite Call of Duty titles—including Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, and Black Ops 6—have made their way to Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers the chance to experience the franchise’s trademark fast-paced action without committing to a full purchase. In fact, Black Ops 6 was a day one release on Game Pass, which naturally gives players hope about its sequel too.

Thankfully, Activision has already revealed its plans for Black Ops 7’s release on Xbox Game Pass, so let us clear all your doubts in this guide.

Yes—similar to its 2024 predecessor, Black Ops 7 is scheduled for a day one launch on Xbox Game Pass. You’ll be able to download the title from the Microsoft Store using an active Game Pass subscription once it fully releases on Nov. 14

As for the type of subscription that is eligible, you can get Black Ops 7 on day one with either a Game Pass Ultimate plan or a PC Game Pass plan. So if you’re on an Xbox console and looking for the day one benefit, make sure you get the Ultimate plan—and not the Xbox Game Pass Standard console-exclusive plan. To help you plan ahead, here are the prices for the said eligible plans:

  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan is available at $19.99/month.
  • PC Game Pass plan is available at $11.99/month.

These recurring monthly plans seem very economical compared to the whopping $69.99 price tag that you have to clear to own Black Ops 7. From reasons ranging from wanting to try the game out before committing to the full price to having always been a part of the Game Pass family for all the titles you can play “for free,” subscription is definitely a more flexible option than full ownership.

That said, your Xbox Game Pass subscription will only include the base CoD: Black Ops 7 game. If you want to get the premium Vault edition, you’ll have to pay the full price of $99.99. Needless to say, you get additional cosmetic goodies with Vault—quite tempting for veteran CoD players—so the choice is yours.

Another thing to note is that with a subscription service, you don’t technically “own” the game. Once you stop paying for Game Pass, your access to Black Ops 7 will be gone. There’s also the chance Microsoft could remove it from the library at any time, though that’s unlikely.

If you’re fine with its limitations, Xbox Game Pass remains one of the best gaming services in today’s unpredictable industry landscape—so make the most of its benefits while you can.
