Yes, as bizarre as it might sound in a mode where the main focus is to take down zombies while ensuring survival, the objective of this game mode is to grief the opposing team into losing against those same zombies.

However, the primary objective remains slaying the undead as you continue surviving through waves of zombies. Having said that, there are quite a few intricate details and mechanics that you should know about the Grief game mode before jumping into the servers.

Here’s everything you need to know about the returning Grief mode in BO6 Zombies.

The Grief game mode was last seen in the CoD Zombies franchise on Black Ops 2 and was a fan-favorite when it existed. This mode puts two teams of four players up against each other in an arena with the objective being to outsurvive the opponent team. While you cannot shoot or inflict damage enemies directly, you can still grief them by body-blocking or slowing them with melee weapons or projectiles.

However, every member of the respective team must be killed or in a downed state for the other team to claim victory in this mode. The match takes place in an arena where both teams spawn at opposite ends of the map, and 11 arenas are available for the Grief mode. These arenas, along with their point of interest, are:

ArenaPoint of interest
Liberty Falls Arena 1Pump & Pay, Motor Lodge, and Fuller’s Liberty Lanes
Liberty Falls Arena 2Dark Aether Church, Cemetery, Hilltop
Terminus Arena 1Bio Lab
Terminus Arena 2Crab Island
Citadelle des Morts ArenaCourtyard, Ramparts, and Entrance Hall
The Tomb Arena 1Dig Site, Mausoleum
The Tomb Arena 2Dark Aether Nexus
Shattered Veil Arena 1Garden Pond, Lower Terrace
Shattered Veil Arena 2Upper Terrace, Shem’s Henge, Motor Court
Shattered Veil Arena 3Mansion Foyer, Overlook, East Foyer, Library
Shattered Veil Arena 4West Hallways, Southwest Balcony, Bottlery

Players can be revived when they get downed by the undead. However, the revival process can be disrupted by the opponents, shock chargers, and zombies. Nevertheless, a Wave Respawner is triggered after every three rounds, respawning every eliminated player as long as the game keeps going.

Capture Zones in Grief

To address the aspect of the game mode’s name, Capture Zones will spawn at regular intervals throughout a match, requiring you and your team to step inside the glowing area and secure the zone. You will need to continue slaying the undead while securing the zone, and once you reach the required kill count, your team will inflict a grief on the opposing team.

However, in case both teams fail to meet the required kill count for the Capture Zone, they will both receive a grief, causing negative effects on both teams. If you’re wondering what a grief is, here’s everything you need to know.

What is a grief in BO6 Zombies?

A grief is a temporary debuff that causes a negative impact on the performance of a team in the Grief mode of BO6 Zombies season four. There are five different types of griefs that can be inflicted by either team based on what kind of Capture Zone spawns in the match. Here are all five griefs along with a brief description of their effects:

GriefEffect
Weapon NerfConsiderably lowers the weapon damage inflicted on undead enemies.
Ammo DrainAll ammo-based weapons receive a constant drain, with bullets getting removed.
Zombie AmbushAn Elite undead is summoned whose sole focus is to eliminate the respective team.
Weapon CarouselPlayers’ weapons are randomly swapped every few seconds.
FrozenReduces the movement speed of all players on the team while also coating the characters in frost and ice.
