EnVyUs and Splyce will battle it out in the first week of the CWL Global Pro League
Team EnVyUs, the defending Call of Duty world champions, will be put to the test when the inaugural season of the Call of Duty World League Global Pro League kicks off in Columbus, Ohio on April 21.
Earlier today, MLG hosted a live group draw for the tournament. While there's no definitive "Group of Death" this time, EnVyUs's Red Group is arguably the toughest of the four. They will have to battle against Splyce, Cloud9, and Mindfreak to advance.
Cloud9 has had an up-and-down season so far in Infinite Warfare, but Splyce is the undisputed best team in Europe, and Mindfreak clearly is the king of the APAC region. All of the matches should be extremely close, and it will be interesting to keep an eye on who prevails.
In total, the CWL Global Pro League will feature the top 16 Call of Duty teams in the world based on pro points, MLG’s ranking system for professional players. These spots were divided among the three international regions. The top-nine teams from North America, the top-six European squads and the best APAC team make up the 16 organizations competing in this league.
These teams were randomly drawn into one of the four pools live on stream. Here they are:
- Team EnVyUs
- FaZe Clan
- Rise Nation
- Evil Geniuses
- Luminosity Gaming
- Epsilon Esports
- OpTic Gaming
- Red Reserve
A good combination of strong respawn teams fill out the Yellow Group, with eUnited and Luminosity set to face off against Millenium and Epsilon. OpTic Gaming coincidentally headlines the Green Group, and Red Reserve, Enigma6, and Elevate will essentially be battling for the second seed in this group with the way OpTic has been playing lately.
The top two teams in each group will advance to the double-elimination playoffs, which will take place on May 25 to 28. The third place team in each group will earn a spot in the second season of the CWL Global Pro League, but won’t play in the playoffs or the relegation tournament. The last place team from each pool will battle for their spot in the second season in the relegation tournament, which will take place on June 15– one day before the start of CWL Anaheim.
The Red Group will begin regular season play on April 21 to 23. The Blue Group will play on April 28 to 30, the Yellow Group will compete from May 5 to 7, and the Green Group will end the regular season after playing from May 12 to 14.
