Breakout Search and Destroy to replace Scorch in official CWL ruleset

Goodbye, Scorch Search and Destroy– you won’t be missed.

One of the most disliked maps in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has been removed from the official Call of Duty World League map set, the league announced today.

Scorch Search and Destroy will be replaced by Breakout Search and Destroy in the competitive ruleset used at all CWL LAN events for the rest of the Infinite Warfare season, which will conclude when the next Call of Duty game is released in November.

Scorch Search and Destroy has been a very troubling map over the past five months. The original placement of the B bombsite caused many issues when Infinite Warfare was released last November, forcing developer Infinity Ward to change its location on two separate occasions. The map was most recently featured in the grand finals of CWL Dallas in March, when OpTic Gaming defeated eUnited 6-0 in game five to take home the championship.

The community was pleased when Eric “Muddawg” Sanders, a former professional Call of Duty player who now works behind the scenes with CWL, broke the map rotation news in his official Reddit post.

“After polling the 64 qualified players from the Global Pro League, the CWL team has decided to add Breakout – Search and Destroy and remove Scorch – Search and Destroy from the Maps & Game Mode Combinations,” Muddawg wrote.

Instead of forcing players to compete on a map they don’t think fits in the scene, CWL directly involved all of its professional players in this decision in an effort to provide the highest quality of play possible.

Breakout won’t replace Scorch right away, however, as CWL Birmingham, the next European LAN event taking place from April 14 to 16, won’t include the newest Search and Destroy map, according to Muddawg.

To ensure that players have adequate time to get used to the map, Search and Destroy on Breakout will officially join the map set on April 17, just five days before the start of the CWL Global Pro League’s first season.

It will be interesting to see what gameplay and strategies come out of Breakout Search and Destroy. For now, most professional Call of Duty players are just happy that their voices have been heard.
