Should you turn SOVIS filter on or off in Battlefield 6?

It's your choice.

The SOVIS filter in Battlefield 6 can drastically change the way you see and engage with opponents.

Recommended Videos

SOVIS, or Soldier Visibility filter, was originally designed to counter the visibility issues brought about by the Battlefield’s environmental effects, such as fog, dust, and dynamic lighting. These effects make it difficult to track enemy outlines and harder to kill them.

The filter makes it much easier to spot soldiers against any background. When active, it turns off certain lighting and atmosphere around operator models, so player outlines are always clear and unaffected by visual clutter. Here’s everything you need to know whether you should turn it on or off in Battlefield 6.

What does the SOVIS filter do in BF6?

Battlefield 6‘s SOVIS filter is a visibility-enhancing option found in the graphics settings. When enabled, it boosts the contrast on all operator models so they stand out even amid dense smoke, harsh light, or dark foliage.

It directly overrides how lighting interacts with player models and is particularly useful in chaotic firefights and on maps with unpredictable weather effects.

How to turn the SOVIS filter on in BF6

To turn the SOVIS filter on, all you need to do is:

  1. Boot up BF6
  2. Head to the Settings menu (the gear icon on the top beside the Profile tab)
  3. Select the Graphics option and scroll down
  4. Under “Interface & HUD,” you will find the button to toggle the SOVIS filter on and off
  5. Keep the button on if you want it enabled

Pros and cons of SOVIS in BF6

When it comes to the pros, SOVIS improves visibility as enemies are easier to spot across all environments, so you’re less likely to get surprised or lose track of distant targets. Performance impact is minimal, resulting in little to no drop in FPS, even on mid-range hardware. Lastly, the clarity is consistent as the filter helps maintain sharp outlines while fighting in fog, behind smoke grenades, or against sunlit backdrops.

The filter has some cons, too. It can reduce realism by flattening lighting effects and making maps look overexposed. The overall look feels artificial, with some disliking the glowing edges or washed-out visuals caused by high-contrast outlines.

Who should keep the SOVIS filter on and off?

Competitive players should keep the SOVIS filter on. If winning gunfights and maintaining a tactical edge matter to you the most, keeping it enabled makes sense. If you’re struggling with visibility and find it hard to spot opponents, SOVIS will also come in handy.

If you’re more into immersiveness and prefer Battlefield’s cinematic atmosphere with realistic depth and lighting, leave the SOVIS off.
