Fortnite developer Epic Games is working to fix issues with the game’s voice chat, the company said yesterday. With this issue, players are not able to hear each other despite the game showing they’re talking.

Epic said on Reddit it’s starting to investigate what might be causing these problems. The company also asked players to provide more information about their platform and what are the exact problems they had with voice chat while in a Battle Royale match.

The problems seem to be varied and not restricted to a single platform.

A player said they can’t hear any teammate in squads mode, and that it happens every match. Another player on the Xbox One said that it happens with cross-play enabled when he’s in a lobby with a friend who’s on PlayStation 4. “Voice chat works in lobby, just as soon as loading in it does not,” they said. Six other players said this is exactly what’s happening to them, too. Another player on the PC said this issue happened when partied with a friend who was on PlayStation 4.

These early reports make it seem like the voice chat issues some Fortnite players are experiencing might be related to players on the PlayStation 4. Although Epic is still in the early stages of the investigation, this seems to be the case.

The in-game voice chat might be irrelevant for PC players, who have other alternatives like Discord and TeamSpeak to talk to their teammates outside the game. But on consoles, the Fortnite voice chat is the simplest and most effective way of communicating, and a bug with this feature can be the difference between an early loss and a Victory Royale.

If the voice chat bug is a simple issue, we might see Epic releasing an update soon to fix it.
